However, this style of gameplay is balanced by Krieg killing standard enemies in one hit and regaining all his health. Most Borderlands enemies use ranged attacks, which means if you charge into the fray like an angry bull, you’re probably getting shot from 20 different angles. Also, his attacks can set people on fire. On top of that, Krieg can add dynamite to his Buzz Axe, making for a dangerously powerful thrown weapon with splash damage. Krieg whips out a sort of chainsaw axe and gains increased movement speed, 500% damage, and regains 100% of his health on a kill. Krieg’s ability, Buzz Axe Rampage, is perfect for that playstyle. His role is to invade the personal space of bandits and aliens who have way more health than him and typically deal way more damage. Krieg is all about high risk/high reward. This one almost feels like cheating, since I’m technically discussing his special ability rather than the weapon itself, but whatever. They make the action faster and the visuals more exciting. All of these upgrades have one thing in common.
Another upgrade steals health with each swing of the Sky-Hook. One such upgrade has a 1/3 chance of possessing anyone you hit, making them fight for you. It keeps the action at an exciting pace and makes encounters with Sky-Lines especially exciting.īioshock Infinite also features plenty of upgrades to make the Sky-Hook even more appealing. The Sky-Hook transforms the battlefield into a shooting gallery where you’re incentivized to leap down from the heavens and break some jaws. Someone shooting at you from that hovercraft? Leap down and punch him in the face so hard he goes flying off this floating city like Icarus. Aside from gaining extreme mobility, the main draw is the ability to leap from the sky, punch people in the face, and make a perfect three-point landing.
The city of Columbia is tied up in a ribbon of Sky-Lines that allow Booker to leap into the air and zip around the battlefield from a bird’s eye view. Why is the Sky-Hook on this list again? Because of Sky-Lines. Okay, those are pretty standard FPS melee weapon abilities. Also, when an enemy is near death, you can cinematically execute them in a number of overly gruesome ways. This makes it easy to dispatch foes without wasting vigor salts. While the Sky-Hook’s basic attack doesn’t deal a lot of damage, it briefly stuns standard enemies. Mechanically, the Sky-Hook has a lot going on, that’s why it’s on this list. So kicks off the endless massacre of Columbia’s police force, which is somehow larger than the NYPD. You first use this weapon at the infamous Raffle scene, where Booker DeWitt brutally lacerates a policeman’s face. Thematically, the Sky-Hook separates Bioshock Infinite’s whimsical Americana from the grim reality of the main story. If you haven’t already, give these games a try, they may surprise you.
However, you may find something new and unexpected in our list of the Top 5 FPS melee weapons.
You won’t find any normal weapons with beefed up stats here – sorry Daedric Warhammer. While this could easily be a top 10 list or even a top 20 list, the final decisions came down to which melee weapons are the most interesting. Narrowing this list down to top 5 was no easy task. Whether they’re swords, axes, or whatever blunt object happens to be nearby, these are melee weapons defined by unique mechanics and satisfying swings. Weapons that fundamentally change how you play the game. Then come the specialty FPS melee weapons. By Merrick Madrigal in General | Jan, 18th 2019įPS melee weapons are a lot like starter pistols they’re almost always the first weapon you find, and they’re usually weak.Īfter all, why waste time punching zombies when you could set them on fire, vaporize them into a puddle of goop, or hit them with remote-controlled bullets that turn them into flying landmines?
